Ṣafar (Arabic: صَفَر) is the second month of the Islamic calendar. The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, so Safar moves from year to year when compared with the Gregorian calendar, which is solar based. The word “Safar” means “whistling of the wind”. Usually the Islamic months were named according to weather conditions at the time.
